What we earn today
Nothing. There are no advertisements on this site, no sponsors, no paid placements, and no affiliate relationships. No money has changed hands with anyone over anything published here. If you are looking for the catch, the honest answer today is that there is not one yet.
We would like that to change, and this page says in advance how it is allowed to.
What we would take money for
Affiliate links to companies selling things to a buyer, in five areas: vehicle history reports, transporting a machine home, insurance, financing, and riding gear. If you follow such a link and buy, we are paid a share by that company.
Advertising, sold by a network rather than by us.
All of these have the same thing in common. They are third parties we publish nothing about. We do not count them, measure them, rank them or write about them anywhere on this site, so being paid by one cannot change a word we print about anybody. An advertising network is further away still: we do not even pick who appears.
What we will not take money for
- Anything from a dealer. Not placement, not removal, not a reply, not a correction, not a faster correction, not a review before publication. There is no tier, no queue and no arrangement, and there is nothing on this site for sale to a dealer.
- Anything from a company we publish about, or that sells to the dealers we publish about — dealer website platforms, dealer management software, dealer groups. Being paid by them would be being paid about them.
- Advertising placed inside what we measure. No sponsored dealer, no promoted listing, no paid row.
What money is never allowed to change
An affiliate link never appears in a list of dealers, never appears in a row of results, and never affects the order anything is shown in. Nothing we are paid for is an input to what gets published, what gets counted, or what comes first. The figures on this site are counts of dealers' own public pages, and no payment can move one.
If we are ever paid by anyone, it will be written on this page first, with the date, and the link will say what it is where you meet it.
What we count when you click one
If you follow a partner link, we add one to a number: that partner, that date, and which kind of page you were on. We do not store your address, what browser you use, a session, a cookie, or which dealer or machine you were reading about. There is no tracker on this site and no script of any kind.
Why this page exists
A site that publishes facts about businesses is only worth reading if the businesses cannot buy the facts. Writing down who pays us, before anyone does, is the cheapest way to keep that true. If something on this page ever stops matching what we do, tell us and we will fix it.
